Difference between "bright", "shine", "glare", "glow", "flicker", "sparkle", "glitter", "glisten"

Bright
"Bright" is an adjective. It means full of light.
  • The overhead light is too bright.

Shine
"Shine" is a verb. It means giving bright light.
  • The sun shining through the clouds.

Glare
"Glare" is something that shines with very bright to make it difficult to look at.
  • The glare on the water is very bright.

Glow
"Glow" is a verb. It means giving bright light and heat without flame.
  • The coals glowed in the fireplace.
  • The lamp glow in the dark. 
  • Her face was glowing with embarrassment.

Flicker
"Flicker" is verb. It means shining with brief interruptions.
  • The lamp kept flickering on and off.

Sparkle
"Sparkle" means shining brightly with small flashes of light.
  • The sky sparkled (verb) with brilliant stars. 
  • The sparkles (noun) of light on water

Glitter
"Glitter" is verb and noun. It means shining with bright points of light.
  • The water glittered in the sunlight.

Glisten
"Glisten" is verb. It means shining with light reflected on a wet surface.
  • Her eyes glistened with emotion.
  • The road glistened after the rain.
