Difference between "grab", "grasp", "catch" and "seize"

Grab
"Grab" means to take someone or something quickly. It can also be used in figurative sense.
  • She grabbed the child's hand and ran.
  • Let's grab a sandwich before we go.
  • The store had a lot of nice stuff, but nothing really grabbed me.

Grasp
"Grasp" means to take and hold something with your fingers, hands, or figuratively with your mind.
  • I grasped the end of the rope and pulled as hard as I could.
  •  She was unable to grasp how to do it.

Catch
"Catch" means to capture something or someone. It can also be used in figurative sense.
  • She caught the ball with one hand.
  • The police are working hard to catch the criminals and put them in jail.
  • My teacher caught me cheating on a test.
  • We both caught the flu.

Seize
"Seize" means to take someone or something by using force. It can also be used in figurative sense.
  • The army has seized control of the country.
  • He was seized by panic.
